Read My Lips (or Blog)-No New Products

Hi my name is Afton and I am a shopaholic and product junkie. Yes I love to spend and mostly what I spend my money on after paying bills is hair products. Most of them are staples that I need for my hair regimen and the rest is stuff to “try out” or loosely translated to collect dust in my bedroom until one fateful day when I actually started cleaning and realized “Man, I have a lot of stuff.” Well I didn’t say stuff but I’m trying to keep it as clean as possible. Anyway after finding a stock pile of hair products that could last for the next three years or whenever Dumpling starts Kindergarten, I decided to make a tough decision. I will NOT purchase another product for my hair until I use all the products that I have. Now there is one exception. If the item is a staple (meaning it gets used all the time) then I can purchase a replacement of that item, but nothing new can come into the house until everything is gone. When I told Lovey my challenge to myself, he gave me the cool whatever you say babe attitude, but inside I know he was jumping for joy. Lovey hates clutter. In fact, when we first moved in together, he was ready to consolidate our stuff and get rid of the excess. I have to say I was horrified, but I did see his point. I mean did I really need that microwave from the 80’s that didn’t warm anything up? Or the coffee maker whose coffee pods was discontinued? Anyway I took a picture of all my items based on what they do and posted it on Instagram. So right now I will do a quick rundown of everything I have.

Shampoo

Redken Hair Cleansing Cream-This shampoo is a clarifying and chelating shampoo meaning that it not only removes build up, it removes mineral deposits from the hair. I am almost finished with this bottle.
Clear Scalp and Hair Shea Shampoo-I got this in a CurlBox and while I have used it a few times, it got moved to the side for sulfate free shampoos.
Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo-I first used Shea Moisture at the start of my journey and during a buy one get one at Walgreens I wanted to revisit it.
Creme of Nature Straight from Eden Hydrating Shampoo-Yes I have two of them. Walgreens had a sale on it plus I won the complete system from Creme of Nature so I have been using these first.

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner-I used to use this on Hushpuppy's hair and then Dumpling's and then I wanted to use it on my hair but I haven't yet.
Trader Joe's Tea Tree Conditioner-Blame it on YouTube or shoot blame it on me. I heard so much about this conditioner that I had to try it.
GVP Humectress Conditioner-My baby. I love this conditioner and I'm almost out again.
Clear Scalp and Hair Shea Conditioning Treatment-This conditioner is a meh for me but I'll use it somehow.
Silk Elements Mega Cholesterol Conditioner-I bought this during one of Sally's specials on Silk Elements products and while it hasn't been bad for my hair, I don't see where it has been good.
Creme of Nature Straight from Eden Hydrating Conditioner-I have been back and forth with this conditioner, but for right now it is doing the job.
Clear Scalp and Hair Ultra Shea Conditioner-it's a good rinse out conditioner but nothing special.
Suave Coconut Conditioner-I use it for cowashing mainly.
VO5 Kiwi Clarifying Conditioner-I thought it would be like a clarifying shampoo except it's conditioner for my hair but no it's just conditioner with no clarifying properties.
Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Conditioner-See Tea Tree Conditioner above
Protein Treatments
Nexxus Emergencee Reconstructive Treatment-I like this protein treatment for when my hair needs that extra boost of protein. I'm almost out and they reformulated the product so I may not be able to replace it.
Novex Brazilian Keratin Deep Conditioning Treatment-I received this in either a CurlBox or CurlKit and haven't used it yet. No time like the present though.
Aphogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor-I have been using this protein treatment for years and it hasn't failed me yet.
Leave-In Conditioners
Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream-I started using this when I was natural and then when I went back to relaxed. I also use it as a moisturizer.
Creme of Nature Hydrating Leave In Conditioner-I like this leave in because of its detangling properties.
Aphogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer-I use this mostly when I have to do a roller set but I have been using it when air drying my hair as well. It works wonders with heat styling. This is almost empty too.
Moisturizers
S-Curl No Drip Curl Activator and Moisturizer-This has been my day one moisturizer since the first day of my hair journey. However they changed the formula and now I'm not so sure.
Oyin Handmade Hair Dew-While I like the smell of this (like vanilla cake) it doesn't moisturize my hair as much as I would like it to.
Elasta QP Olive Oil and Mango Butter Moisturizer-This is a great moisturizer especially when I decide to baggy my hair. This is almost empty.
Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Milk Shine and Hold Mist-I used this a lot when I was natural but not when I was relaxed. I may not use it at all but we'll see.
Styling Products, Serums, and Oils
I won't go into much detail on these products just to say that they are mostly serums and heat protectants. I will say that the Mane and Tail Detangler get used a lot during my relaxer stretches and I use it on my girl's hair as well. While the Creme of Nature Straight from Eden Repairing Oil does have oils in it, it has the consistency of a serum and some cones in it.

Well that's all for my products and my resolution to not buy anything new for my hair until this stuff is used up. Be sure to check out my wash day posts to see more in depth information on these products.

Do you consider yourself a product junkie? What ways have you "thinned out the ranks" when it comes to your hair items? Let me know in the comments below.
